Planning Permission is not always needed as this is a Permitted Development; ask your local planning department whether your house needs it before applying.

Flat plate collectors are more satisfactory in the Scottish (or UK) climate.

For the system to be safe and gain maximum benefit from the sun, it should be solar pumped, not using mains electricity.

With a mains-pressure system, use mini-bore piping (10mm or 8mm) to each hot tap individually as this drastically reduces the amount of water that is run off.
